About The Position

UES is looking for an experienced Reinforcing Steel Inspector to support a major upcoming construction project. This is a great opportunity for an inspector who knows reinforcing steel, understands what good work looks like in the field, and is comfortable working on a large, active construction project. The initial project is expected to last approximately 6 months, and we're open to considering candidates interested in either a temporary/project-based assignment or a full-time, permanent opportunity with UES.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience inspecting reinforcing steel/rebar installations
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and reinforcing steel details
  • Experience verifying bar size, spacing, placement, clearances, laps, supports, and general installation requirements
  • Strong understanding of construction inspection practices and documentation
  • Confidence communicating observations with contractors, project teams, and other field personnel
  • Someone dependable who can step onto an active project and contribute quickly
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a completed welding certificate program or vocational training.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of various welding techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to changing schedules and hours to support business needs.
  • Strong time management, mathematics, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • American Welding Society (AWS) or similar welding certification, preferred.
  • Experience with structural steel fabrication, steel erection, bridge construction, or related inspection activities
  • Experience with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE), including Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Additional AWS, ICC, API, or related industry certifications
  • Previous consulting or third-party inspection experience
  • Experience supporting transportation, industrial, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects

Responsibilities

  • Performing welding inspections at active construction sites, fabrication shops, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects
  • Reviewing engineering drawings, welding procedures, specifications, and project documentation
  • Verifying compliance with AWS codes, project specifications, and applicable industry standards
  • Preparing clear, accurate, and timely inspection reports and documentation
  • Working closely with contractors, fabricators, project managers, and engineers to resolve quality concerns and maintain project schedules
  • Conducting visual inspections of structural steel and welded components
  • Supporting quality assurance and quality control efforts throughout project execution
  • Communicating inspection findings, recommendations, and project updates to clients and project teams
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to safety while working in active construction and industrial environments
  • Managing field assignments throughout the Cincinnati region
