About The Position

Structural Steel Field Superintendents are responsible for directing on-site steel erection, managing field labor and equipment, and enforcing safety rules. This role involves overseeing daily installation, managing crane and rigging logistics, and maintaining quality control for commercial and industrial steel projects. The position requires regional travel on the East Coast and is for a non-union environment with negotiable compensation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in structural steel erection or heavy industrial construction.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read complex structural blueprints, erection plans, and crane lift plans.
  • OSHA 30-hour safety training.
  • Valid rigging/welding oversight knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Direct structural steel assembly, rigging, fit-up, bolting, welding, and field modifications.
  • Enforce OSHA compliance, conduct safety meetings, and inspect heavy equipment like cranes.
  • Track look-ahead schedules and sequence column, beam, and joist deliveries with project managers.
  • Verify that welding and structural installations match engineering drawings and project specifications.
  • Manage ironworkers, field welders, and sub-trade labor performance.
