About The Position

We are looking for a Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector to help ensure fabricated products meet quality expectations throughout the manufacturing process. This hands-on position involves inspecting structural steel components, welds, coatings, and raw materials while verifying compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards. The ideal candidate has a background in structural steel fabrication, understands welding codes, and is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
  • Previous experience in quality control, quality assurance, inspection, or a similar manufacturing role.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • Experience using quality inspection equipment, including: Fillet weld gauges, V-WAC gauges, Squares, Tape measures, Standard welding and fabrication inspection tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accuracy, and workplace safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Experience performing or assisting with Nondestructive Testing (NDT), including: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, bolting, or protective coatings.
  • Previous experience in a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect structural steel components throughout fabrication to verify quality and workmanship.
  • Confirm compliance with project specifications and applicable standards, including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC requirements.
  • Examine incoming materials, parts, and consumables to ensure they meet required specifications.
  • Record inspection findings and maintain accurate quality reports and documentation.
  • Identify, label, and track inspected materials in accordance with established quality procedures.
  • Calibrate and maintain welding equipment along with inspection and measuring tools.
  • Support welder qualification and certification activities.
  • Assist with training related to welding practices, fitting procedures, inspection methods, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain drawing control and support documentation used throughout the quality process.
  • Work closely with production personnel and leadership to investigate quality concerns and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts while promoting a safe work environment.
