About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Engineer in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger and more complex work. You will provide engineering solutions and technical guidance to clients while supporting the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. This role also supports project planning, budgeting, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination to help deliver positive project outcomes. You will work with a structural team whose portfolio includes public-sector, education, healthcare, multifamily, and commercial work across the Southeast, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structures
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Work closely with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.
  • Support consulting-project execution as part of a project team.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling efforts to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions, and monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications.
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and structural engineering best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety, conduct work ethically and professionally, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify potential project problems, seek advice from the Project Manager, and support projects through bidding, design and construction administration phases.
