About The Position

HOK Project Engineers deliver small to medium building projects or lead an engineering area within a larger project team, from concept development and design through construction and commissioning. The role devotes approximately 90% of its time to project engineering and 10% to project management and technical improvement. Project Engineers are responsible for quality, timely delivery, and budget performance, while collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, and other team members. Travel and overtime may be required.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) if an MEP Engineer; licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in states requiring an SE license, or PE or CE/PE in other states.
Five years of project engineering experience, from design development through opening, including at least one completed high-profile project.
Experience delivering projects with construction values over $20 million and up to $80 million.
Experience working in integrated teams.
Experience designing and delivering LEED Silver or higher projects.
Ability to work creatively to solve complex problems.
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
For structural engineering: experience with complex analysis tools for structural design and design of structural systems for small complex buildings.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in engineering.
LEED accreditation or LEED Green Associate credential.
Experience with architecturally significant buildings.
Experience with project types in commercial, corporate, institutional and civic, justice, aviation, or healthcare sectors.
Mechanical: experience with complex analysis tools and energy modeling; calculating, sizing, and specifying AHUs, pumps, and fans; heat-gain calculations; mechanical-system engineering; specification editing; and construction phases.
Mechanical: experience engineering chilled beam systems, radiant systems, micro-climates, or underfloor air systems.
Electrical: experience with complex analysis tools for electrical design.
Electrical: experience with architecturally significant buildings, controls and commissioning, central plants, multiple emergency-generator systems, or mission-critical buildings.
Mechanical: ability to design air and piping systems for small complex buildings, areas, or systems within larger buildings.
Electrical: ability to design medium- and low-voltage systems, electrical systems for small complex buildings, and fire alarm and life-safety systems for small complex buildings.

Responsibilities

Identify ways to improve engineering design and design processes, and monitor emerging engineering design trends.
Perform project management tasks, including manpower estimates, project communications, budget monitoring and input, deliverable organization, and setting project delivery standards.
Develop typical details, specifications, drawing standards, and Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team.
Monitor industry and technology developments and recommend appropriate changes to approaches and services.
Improve analytical processes and documentation, and develop common and critical solutions.
Promote strong service to internal and external clients.
Engineer small to medium projects (under $80 million in construction cost) from concept and schematic design through construction documents, construction, and commissioning.
Engineer segments of large projects (over $100 million), supporting a Senior Project Engineer.
Provide design input and review other engineers' projects.
Attend client meetings and foster positive relationships with current and prospective clients.
Contribute ideas and solutions as a team member, and lead on issues when appropriate.
Conduct site surveys for renovation projects to determine engineering strategies and document and evaluate existing systems.
Visit construction sites to review quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards.
Review projects at all design stages and deliver work to the required quality, schedule, and budget.
Seek input from senior staff on technical matters to improve project outcomes.
Support business development as needed, including preparing project descriptions, presenting work at industry events, and preparing discipline fee estimates and assumptions.
Work with architects on concepts for project competitions.
