About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Engineer in Chicago, IL to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. This role is responsible for engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, work within the project's monetary budget, and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports commercial and institutional work across Chicagoland and the broader Midwest, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structures
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of Building Information Model software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and other structures using a variety of building materials
  • Use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationships
  • Support the execution of consulting projects as part of a project team
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and client instructions, and monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants on practical and efficient solutions
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases
  • Prioritize safety and conduct work in an ethical and professional manner
