As our Structural Mechanical Engineer, you will design and analyze structural systems related to facility infrastructure and equipment to ensure they are safe, stable, and compliant with applicable codes.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering and physics is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have high-quality workmanship.
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication.
  • Must have experience in application of natural phenomena loads (Seismic, Wind, Snow, Thermal) on structures.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Must have previous experience with industrial/facility infrastructure design and industrial equipment.
  • Must have demonstrable skills and knowledge of 3D CAD Design and Drawings utilizing CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks).
  • Must have demonstrable skills and knowledge of qualification software (ANSYS and/or GTStrudl).
  • Must possess knowledge of Piping Support Qualifications (ASME B31.1, B31.3 or NF).
  • Must possess knowledge of Piping Analysis Qualification using NQA-1 Software (AutoPipe or similar).
  • Must possess knowledge of Concrete Analysis (ACI 318).
  • Must possess knowledge of Structural Steel Analysis (AISC Steel Construction Manual required), AISC N690 preferred.
  • Must possess knowledge of establishing Design Loads and Design Specifications.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to travel (<10%) domestic and international.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Microstation CAD, SolidWorks and/or Revit knowledge.
  • Previous experience with industrial/facility infrastructure design and industrial equipment.
  • A working knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 OSHA General Industry Regulations and Standard.
  • Experience in nuclear plant licensing applications.
  • Knowledge of ACI-349 nuclear concrete structures.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/AISC N690 steel safety related nuclear structures.
  • Knowledge of ASCE Seismic Analysis Standards (ASCE-4, ASCE-43)
  • Knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Div 2 containment analysis experience.
  • Experience performing seismic analysis of structures, tanks, piping using response spectra or time history response analysis methods.
  • Experience with structural analysis programs (ANSYS, GTSTRUDL, SAP2000, RISA, RAM Connection).
  • Experience with Piping analysis programs (AutoPipe).
  • Experience performing impact and impulsive loading analyses.
  • A Master’s degree in structural engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex structural systems related to facility infrastructure and equipment.
  • Perform structural evaluations and design for foundations, structural components, below the hook lifting, etc.
  • Support production, equipment, and facilities upgrades, improvements, or new installations.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Create design models and detailed drawings using CAD software and other design methods.
  • Develop engineering calculations and specifications in accordance with nuclear and commercial standards.
  • Support engineering procurement efforts.
  • Analyze structural design of concrete, steel, and aluminum structures using applicable design codes.
  • Analyze natural phenomena loading on structures (seismic, wind, precipitation, thermal, etc.).
  • Analyze soil mechanics to determine soil loading on structures and structural settlement analysis.
