About The Position

Performs assigned work relative to structural repair/refurbishment of light rail vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division. This includes repairing LRV vehicles damaged in accidents, working with sheet metal, structural steel, and other materials. The role involves fabricating structural posts, flooring, roof panels, and body panels using various metalwork machines and tools. Additionally, it requires preparing vehicles for painting, including body fillers and sanding, and painting vehicles to DART specifications. The position also entails replacing interior and under-car wiring, performing body inspections, and polishing LRVs. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Structural Body Repair Technology
• Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
• Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required.
• Must have a valid Drivers License class C, and be able to obtain a Texas class C within 90 days of employment; no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
• Applicants/employees must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and must submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment.
• Proficiency with personal computer (PC), software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).

• Ability to be mobile and occasionally 70% - 80% of the work time.
• Lift objects weighing up to seventy - (70) pounds such as tools, equipment and parts.
• Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.
• Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50lbs such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment for testing and other required equipment in order to perform your job functions.

Responsibilities

• Repair LRV vehicles damaged in accidents to include working with sheet metal, structural steel and other materials.
• Use a variety of metalwork machines and tools to fabricate structural posts, flooring and sub-flooring, roof panels and roof supports, straightening and fabrication of body panels, collision posts, pneumatic piping.
• Prepare vehicles for painting to include body fillers, sanding, etc., and paint vehicles to DART specifications and approved configuration.
• Operate and maintain equipment utilized for paint application and paint vehicles as needed or as scheduled.
• Replace interior and under car wiring to termination point and equipment and components as required.
• Perform interior and exterior body inspection and/or polish LRVs as needed or as scheduled.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
