About The Position

American Buildings Company - Illinois, a Nucor Company, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of machine operator. This role is for the second shift, operating from 2p-10p, Monday through Friday, on various machines within the structural Hot Rolled department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of machinery and processes, including but not limited to plasma robots, automated shot blasters, band saws, lasers, welding, crane operation, computers/window systems, shears, auto beam welders, plate lines, flange lines, tack stations, small parts, CNC plasma, and paint lines. Requirements

  • Complete working knowledge and understanding of how to read and use a tape measure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Safety in all job aspects.
  • Familiarity with Windows Operating Systems.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of LOTOTO program.
  • Flexibility to operate on all shifts pending department needs.
  • Demonstrated history of ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Shown focus on continuous improvement efforts.
  • Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive can-do attitude.
  • Must be able to train on 1st shift before moving to 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain knowledge of machines and processes in the structural Hot Rolled department, including plasma robots, automated shot blasters, band saws, lasers, welding, crane operation, computers/window systems, shears, auto beam welders, plate lines, flange lines, tack stations, small parts, CNC plasma, and paint lines.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to assisting wherever needed with a positive attitude.
  • Identify areas for improvement and make timely suggestions to appropriate leadership.
  • Learn new machines and processes as needed.
  • Operate CNC presses/punches, CNC plasma, and other equipment as needed on diversified work.
  • Work from prints, cutting lists, and verbal/written orders.
  • Properly use scales, squares, protractors, tape measures, and other required tools.
  • Maintain necessary records, including preventative maintenance and inventory tracking.
  • Inspect, detect, and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions.
  • Move material with overhead cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, etc., as necessary.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
  • Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
