Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and sixteen (16) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining and metal projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Lead Engineer in a mining and Metal project.
  • Competent and proven record in technical leadership roles.
  • Discipline project execution related skills and experience.
  • Experience working in revamp projects is an asset.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Driven to independently complete assigned tasks in a time-effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CSA design development in several project phases (conceptual design, front-end design, detail engineering, and design for integration of new facilities in revamp type projects, as well as for ‘small’ grass-root type of multi-disciplinary projects).
  • Lead in structural, civil, and geotechnical design within projects and writing of contractor’s scope of works.
  • Lead/coordinate a Civil Structural design team.
  • Prepare schedules, man-hour estimates, and manpower forecasts.
  • Communicate and align with clients, vendors, and other disciplines.
  • Supervise and act as a mentor for junior-level designers or engineers.
  • Promote and support value improvements, initiatives, and continuous performance improvement.
  • Participate in design reviews within the project team.
  • Work independently, control/lead small teams, including work sharing with foreign offices.
  • Assure quality of work assigned and technical integrity of design documents.
  • Proactively report project status and constraints.
  • Prepare and check man-hour estimates and material estimates, and monthly budget reports for all engineering efforts.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations of received bids from suppliers.
  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts.
  • Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts.
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria.
  • Participate in activities associated with structural procurement packages, permitting, and subcontracting.
  • Perform and check calculations, and solve problems of complex to difficult engineering complexity.
  • Participate in people development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counseling.
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines.
  • Indicate strong technical interests and background with structural engineering.
  • Undertake structural engineering work related to resource project development and construction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
