About The Position

Kimley-Horn is hiring an engineering student for a Structural Intern position in its North Austin, Texas office. This is not a remote position. The intern will contribute to structural projects, including bridges and retaining walls, and will assist with structural design efforts for public and/or private bridge projects. The role includes preparing bridge and structural plans, specifications, and estimates; analyzing and quality-checking client deliverables using technical software; and collaborating with project managers and teams across disciplines. The intern will develop familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and its clients’ practices, procedures, and standards. Interns will learn one or more relevant software programs.

Requirements

Be in the process of receiving an ABET-accredited bachelor’s or master’s engineering degree in one of the listed majors: Civil and/or Environmental Engineering; Structural Engineering; Mechanical, Electrical, Biological, Biosystems, Chemical, or Agricultural Engineering; or Engineering Technology.

Responsibilities

Use technical software regularly to analyze, produce, and quality-check client deliverables.
Contribute to pre-construction work on structural projects, including bridges, retaining walls, and related structural design efforts for public and/or private bridge projects.
Prepare bridge and structural plans, specifications, and estimates for clients.
Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver clients’ visions for the built environment.
Develop familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations, and with Kimley-Horn’s and clients’ practices, procedures, and standards.
Learn one or more software programs, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel, MicroStation, VISSIM, OpenRoads, Synchro, and/or GIS.
