About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed engineer, this role involves developing structural engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and assessments for commercial facilities, including new construction and renovation. The engineer will use software like Revit to create detailed designs and ensure compliance with code requirements. This position offers an opportunity to develop engineering skills while assisting upper-level engineers and contributing to project success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering (with Structural emphasis), or Civil Engineering (with Structural emphasis) from ABET accredited college or university.
  • English language skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years’ structural engineering experience preferred.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Exam passed and E.I. designation earned preferred.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Revit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops structural engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and assessments for commercial facilities, including new construction and renovation.
  • Uses Revit and other structural-specific design and calculation software to create detailed designs for construction documents.
  • Coordinates with code requirements to ensure proper construction practices are followed.
  • Selects structural materials appropriate for facilities based on coordination with architects, engineers, plans, specifications, and code requirements.
  • Reviews construction shop drawings, performs site visits, and other construction administration activities.
  • Assists upper-level engineers as directed while developing engineering skills.
  • Writes technical engineering reports.
  • Reviews and redlines production plans for revisions.
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed.
  • Maintains accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Provides technical support and input.
  • Cooperates and coordinates with other internal and external engineers, designers, and technicians on project activities.
  • Participates in internal and external project meetings as needed.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
