About The Position

As the Structural Engineering Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading the design of structural systems for buildings across a variety of sectors including Higher Education, Culture & Performing Arts, Healthcare, K-12, Justice/Civic, Science & Technology, and Energy. You will lead a structural engineering team to produce high-quality construction documents and manage project schedules to meet deliverable requirements. As part of the integrated design team, you will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other disciplines to deliver highly integrated and innovative building designs. Responsibilities include the management of Structural Engineers, Designers, and other team members within your studio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) or Professional Engineer (PE) with structural engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of experience working as a structural engineer with experience designing building structures across multiple project types.
  • Strong working knowledge of structural systems, building materials, and the construction process.
  • Prior experience leading teams of Engineers and Designers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with BIM workflows and structural modeling software such as Autodesk Revit.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience designing complex building structures in Healthcare, Higher Education, or Science & Technology sectors.
  • Experience with seismic design and analysis.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable and resilient building design.
  • Familiarity with integrated design delivery methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations, execution, and expectations for the Structural Engineering Discipline in your studio location.
  • Develop workplans for structural engineering projects and manage staff to execute work in alignment with profitability and project performance goals.
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and projects to personnel while balancing staffing and workload to achieve operational and revenue growth objectives.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and document meetings with staff and clients related to overall project and team operations.
  • Partner with sector and practice leadership to support recruitment, staff development, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting with the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and actively engaging in industry and community organizations that strengthen the DLR Group brand.
  • Foster a collaborative and engaging workplace culture that supports team development and operational excellence.
  • Lead structural designs from concept through construction administration, including engineering calculations, technical reports, and coordination of structural system requirements.
  • Perform quality control reviews of structural engineering plans, specifications, and calculations.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of internal personnel, consultants, and external partners.
