About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in Naperville, Illinois. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems in buildings and other structures while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants. In this role, you'll support project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while helping the team work within project budgets and meet client expectations. You'll contribute to projects across commercial and institutional markets, gaining hands-on exposure to structural work in Chicagoland and the broader Midwest.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural system design tasks for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
  • Research project-related resources and supporting information.
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
  • Coordinate design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and supplier teams.
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring design progress.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
  • Prepare and issue addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement.
  • Work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
