About The Position

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team during the Summer of 2027. LSC is seeking a motivated junior-level or higher engineering student who is eager to gain real-world structural engineering experience in a fast-paced consulting environment. As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will support our structural team on projects across the oil and gas, helical pile foundation, and power generation industries. This role offers hands-on exposure to design development, engineering calculations, inter-discipline coordination, and standards development while working alongside experienced engineers and designers. This position is ideal for a student who enjoys problem-solving, wants to learn by doing, and is excited to contribute to meaningful project work in multiple industries.

Requirements

  • Current engineering student with at least two years completed in a Civil or Structural Engineering program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with engineering software is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, ask questions, take initiative, and grow professionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior design or operating experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with ASCE 7, AISC 360, and ACI 318 is a plus.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work on multiple assignments simultaneously, managing tasks independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Assist engineers and CAD designers with project documentation, calculations, research, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Perform basic structural engineering calculations under the supervision of licensed engineers.
  • Support design development efforts and participate in design reviews at key project milestones.
  • Develop and revise structural drawings, including plans, sections, and details.
  • Coordinate with project managers, designers, and other engineering disciplines to support integrated project delivery.
  • Follow company safety policies, engineering standards, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Conduct site visits and perform field verification to document existing conditions and support design accuracy.
