Structural Engineering Intern | Houston, TX
About The Position
This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship Opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in Houston, TX. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures as part of a paid, mentored internship with real project work. In this role, you'll support project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to help meet project goals and client expectations within the project's monetary budget. You'll contribute to work serving commercial and institutional markets while supporting a team with active healthcare, industrial, and mixed-use projects across Texas and the Gulf Coast, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.
Requirements
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Nice To Haves
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist with structural design work for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
- Assist with researching project-related resources.
- Assist with client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files.
- Assist with coordinating design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and supplier teams.
- Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
- Assist with reviewing project documents.
- Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
- Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services as required by the contract services agreement.
