About The Position

Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join its Buildings team for Summer 2027. The intern will contribute to building projects alongside experienced practitioners, clients, and communities, gaining practical experience and developing professional skills. Stantec’s interdisciplinary teams collaborate to design buildings and processes with a focus on safety, performance, and sustainability.

Under the guidance of a Senior Structural Engineer, the intern will work independently on smaller projects and as a team member on larger projects. The role provides opportunities to learn structural analysis, design, and detailing for steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems. The position also involves coordinating with other design disciplines and supporting project design decisions.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Must have completed at least junior-level classes.
• Must have completed design courses in steel and concrete.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
• Basic understanding of Revit and its use as a drafting and design tool.
• Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs, and similar materials.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, component design software such as Enercalc, and finite element analysis software such as RISA and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, codes, and similar materials at a basic level.
• Perform structural discipline design in Revit using relevant software programs.
• Coordinate project work with architectural, interior design, and other engineering disciplines under the direction of a senior engineer.
• Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer.
• Perform basic calculations to analyze and design individual building components using company-standard and proprietary manufacturer software.
• Assist with engineering duties on projects of varying complexity.
• Collect data and gather information to support design decisions.
• Perform other duties assigned by senior engineering staff.
