About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern – Bridge & Transportation Structures interested in joining the AECOM team in our Mechanicsburg, PA office. The position offers the opportunity to gain experience on a variety of infrastructure projects, including the design of bridges and other transportation structures, such as walls and sign structures that are critical to our nation’s transportation network and vital to local communities. Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Requirements

  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Must have completed 2 years of study at the time of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required for this position.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM’s motor vehicle records review.

Nice To Haves

  • Some basic coursework in steel and concrete design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software.
  • Team oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, deadlines, keep track of steps, and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Applying technical training to perform basic calculations, work well in a team setting and be willing to work diligently to learn new skills.
  • Assisting with tasks related to the design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of highway bridges and ancillary transportation structures.
  • Assisting with preliminary to final design calculations and plan development, reviewing of field information, possible field inspection of existing facilities.
  • Assisting with general office administration, including technical report reproduction.
