About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Structural Engineer - Level 3 or Level 4 to join their MEP Team. This position can be located in either Goleta, CA or Oxnard, CA. This position can be filled at a level 2 or level 3. Northrop Grumman Mission Enabling Products (MEP) Business Unit designs, builds, and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include satellites and associated space components and services, launch vehicles and related propulsion systems, missile products, subsystems and defense electronics, precision weapons, armament systems, and advanced aerospace structures.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 5 years engineering experience in finite element analysis and closed-form analysis (for Level 3)
Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 9 years engineering experience in finite element analysis and closed-form analysis (for Level 4)
Demonstrated experience with FEA analysis, ie: NASTRAN, for structural analysis of designs
Experience with spacecraft/aerospace materials in metals, adhesives, thermoplastics, etc.
Demonstrated understanding of mechanical system design
Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers
US Citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in a STEM discipline
Experience with structures and mechanisms for moving mechanical assemblies such as solar arrays, booms, and other support structures and mechanisms for satellite subsystems
4 or more years of direct Structural Engineering experience, preferably in the spacecraft or aerospace industry, with significant project ownership
Detailed mechanical design knowledge of structures, mechanisms, release and drive actuators, and material selection
Working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes such as machining, finishing, and rapid prototyping
Problem solving skills with hands-on project experience
Self-motivated with excellent technical communication skills

Responsibilities

Perform static and dynamic structural analyses, review requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
Document test plans and procedure requirements.
Participate and present in internal and external (customer) design reviews.
Strive for the highest possible structural performance that is also cost effective and assures complete reliability.
Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals of the program team, matrix organization, and customers.
