About The Position

This position supports SSW/VPM Manufacturing Engineering. The Manufacturing Engineering department provides engineering and design support for submarine construction. This position requires that the Engineer work in a design, build, and sustainment environment to develop build strategies and conceptualize methods and fixtures required for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, ship’s systems and associated modules. The work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security. General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront of designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of post graduate engineering experience
  • A background in structural analysis and/or finite element analysis methods.

  • Construction support experience
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Working knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards and specifications

Responsibilities

  • Identification and development of methods and tools required by the shipbuilder
  • Structural analysis required to validate the design
  • Supporting the delivery of the tooling from procurement through shipyard implementation
  • Development of designs for tooling and fixtures
  • Preparation of Manufacturing Engineering Documents for sequence and alignment critical installations
  • Direct shipyard support
  • Daily interaction with related engineers/designers, shipyard trades, manufacturing vendors, and planning representatives from Groton, Quonset Point and Newport News
