About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to join their team based in Orange or Los Angeles, CA. This role supports a wide range of projects across industries including entertainment, commercial, industrial, government, detention, and parking structures. The position offers the opportunity to develop analytical and design skills with a focus on seismic design, seismic retrofits, and advanced structural analysis methods. The Structural Engineer will work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation, company, client, and industry standard practices. This role is part of the Buildings+Places group and contributes to AECOM's role as the Official Venue Infrastructure Partner for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Buildings + Places practice encompasses architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. The Structural Engineer will assist more experienced staff with the design of major building projects across the United States, with construction costs up to $750M. They will work collaboratively on large projects and lead/work independently on smaller structural design projects and tasks. Daily work includes performing structural analysis and design, coordinating with other design disciplines, preparing contract documents, construction administration, and authoring structural reports, assessments, and studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering and 2 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • US Citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience applying all major structural design codes.
  • Demonstrated experience using 3-D structural analysis software. (examples include ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, and SAFE)
  • Experience designing in Steel, Concrete, Masonry, and Timber.
  • Experience with ASCE 41 for retrofit of existing structures.
  • Experience with Wind and Seismic lateral design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in use of REVIT/AutoCAD to provide production support as a portion of team support and development.

Responsibilities

  • Build analytical and design skills.
  • Conduct engineering design under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collect and analyze data under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Perform structural analysis and design.
  • Coordinate work with other design disciplines and prepare contract documents.
  • Construction administration.
  • Author structural reports, assessments, and studies.
