About The Position

We are seeking a talented Structural Engineer to join our team. This role involves concept scheming and sketching to create innovative structural solutions with architects and designers. You will lead involvement in client meetings, facilitate the creation of creative solutions to design issues and challenges, and provide engineering reports to clients. Responsibilities include structural advice on construction and design, devising modifications as necessary, and performing concept and detailed structural design, including calculations, sketches, and finite element modeling. You will also lead and manage the work of junior engineers, drafters, and designers, perform quality control, and liaise with internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget. Site visits across North America are required for progress monitoring and material inspection. You will also review project requirements for estimates and provide input on budgets. Mentoring junior engineers is a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or structural engineering is required.
  • Registered as a P.Eng or EIT with eligibility for P.Eng within 6 months through EGBC.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience working as structural engineer / engineer in training.
  • Experience with Finite Element software (SAP2000, R-FEM, ETABS).
  • Significant experience with Excel (performing calculations).
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 1 year of experience in timber engineering.
  • Experience with seismic design in Canada / USA or abroad is an asset.
  • Knowledge and use of Canadian, American, and European codes is an asset.
  • Experience working with 3D modelling software such as Rhino/Grasshopper/AutoCAD an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Concept scheming and sketching to create innovative structural solutions with architects and designers.
  • Leading involvement in client meetings and facilitating creation of creative solutions to design issues and challenges.
  • Providing engineering reports to clients, structural advice on the construction and design of projects and devising modifications as necessary.
  • Performing concept level and detailed structural design and detailing, including calculations, sketches, and static/dynamic finite element modelling in both pre-construction and construction phases, under the mentorship of senior Engineers.
  • Leading and managing the work of junior engineers, drafters and designers, and performing quality control with assembly and fabrication teams.
  • Liaising with internal project management, shop, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget, and meet fabrication and erection constraints.
  • Visiting project sites across North America to monitor progress in accordance with projected timelines and safety standards and inspecting materials as necessary to ensure adequacy.
  • Reviewing project requirements to provide estimates on quantities and costs of materials, equipment and labor and input on construction and development budgets.
  • Mentoring junior structural engineers and assisting in developing technical knowledge base.
