About The Position

Wight & Company is seeking motivated and detail-oriented structural engineering professionals with 0-5 years of experience to contribute to our diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in engineering principles, a passion for technical design, and a keen interest in integrated design and delivery processes. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in all phases of project development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program.
  • 0-5 years of full-time structural engineering experience in an engineering firm, with exposure to analysis, design, and documentation for vertical building projects utilizing structural steel, reinforced concrete and masonry framing systems.
  • critical thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, technical expertise, attention to detail, adaptability, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A genuine interest in integrated design and delivery, with a commitment to professional growth and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science (MS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program.
  • IBC, ASCE and ICC Building Codes and Standards.
  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and EIT Certification.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering analysis, design, and calculations for vertical building structures under the direct supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Analysis and design of structural steel, concrete, wood, and masonry framing systems for vertical building structures.
  • Participation in submittal of documentation for permitting/regulatory review with multiple local agencies and jurisdictions.
  • Utilization of the latest structural engineering analysis and design software.
  • Utilization of Autodesk Revit Structure building information modeling (BIM) software.
  • Assist in the preparation of design documentation including BIM models, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Conduct research on materials, products, building codes, systems, and sustainable design practices to inform project decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including architecture, sustainability, construction, and other consultants, to support the integrated delivery of projects.
  • Perform onsite surveys of existing building conditions and documenting field measurements and observations.
  • Perform construction phase activities including submittal review and construction site observations.
  • Participate in cross-discipline career development.
  • Engage in continuous learning opportunities, attend industry events, and participate in internal training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Adapts to various roles within a project and performs at a high level.
  • Proactively accepts tasks beyond the primary scope and adjusts to changing priorities to ensure project success, team collaboration, and firm excellence.
