About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to join their team in Orange, CA. This role will support a variety of projects across industries such as entertainment, commercial, industrial, government, detention, and parking structures. The position offers an opportunity to develop analytical and design skills, with a focus on seismic design, seismic retrofits, and advanced structural analysis methods. The Structural Engineer will work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation, as well as company, client, and industry standard practices. This role is part of the Buildings+Places group, which encompasses architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. The Buildings+Places practice focuses on creating better outcomes through strategy and design, aiming to grow economies, protect natural systems, conserve resources, promote equity, and connect people through innovative, sustainable design solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering and 2 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • US Citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience applying all major structural design codes.
  • Demonstrated experience using 3-D structural analysis software. (examples include ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, and SAFE)
  • Experience designing in Steel, Concrete, Masonry, and Timber
  • Experience with ASCE 41 for retrofit of existing structures
  • Experience with Wind and Seismic lateral design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Demonstrated experience in use of REVIT/AutoCAD to provide production support as a portion of team support and development

Responsibilities

  • Build analytical and design skills.
  • Conduct engineering design under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collect and analyze data under the limited supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Assist more experienced staff with the design of major building projects across the United States (projects to have construction costs of up to $750M).
  • Work collaboratively with more experienced engineers on large projects and be given the responsibility to lead/work independently on smaller structural design projects and tasks.
  • Perform structural analysis and design.
  • Coordinate work with other design disciplines and prepare contract documents.
  • Construction administration.
  • Author structural reports, assessments, and studies.
