About The Position

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of structural steel connections in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including CSA S16 and CSA W59. The role also provides engineering support for steel fabrication, erection, and construction activities as required to ensure safe and efficient project execution.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA, or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) eligible for registration (P.Eng. preferred; mentorship available for exceptional E.I.T. candidates).
3–8 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably in structural steel and connection design (reduced experience may be considered for strong E.I.T. candidates).
Experience in structural steel connection design, ideally within a fabrication or construction environment.
Strong knowledge of CSA S16, CSA W59, and other applicable steel design codes and standards.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including development or use of calculation tools) and Word.
Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Idea StatiCa, AutoCAD, and Tekla Structures is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Work independently or collaboratively to design and analyze structural steel connections in accordance with applicable codes and project requirements.
Clearly communicates with Project Managers and Estimators to ensure design objectives align with project schedule and financial targets.
Participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of Excel-based design aids and engineering tools.
Review shop drawings and connection details to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.
Provide construction and field support as required, including lifting studies, lifting lug design, erection plan development and review, and fabrication troubleshooting.
Respond to RFIs and site inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Coordinate with detailing, fabrication, and erection teams to resolve technical issues and support efficient project execution.
