About The Position

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Structural Project Engineer (PE and/or SE) to join our growing Structural Engineering team in our Birmingham, AL office. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in structural design, analysis, and project delivery, and will serve as the structural lead and Engineer of Record for a variety of project sectors including Industrial, Healthcare, Mission Critical/Data Centers, Commercial, Federal, and Water/Wastewater. This role is ideal for a licensed engineer who thrives in a technical leadership position, enjoys mentoring junior staff, and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures from an ABET accredited university
  • Strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI)
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects from concept to completion
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience, 10+ years preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job-related manuals and documents
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Structural Engineer (SE) strongly preferred
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit is a plus
  • Experience with Mission Critical/Data Center projects is a plus
  • Experience with Water/Wastewater structures is a plus
  • Experience with Healthcare projects is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Structural Lead and Engineer of Record for projects across multiple market sectors
  • Performs and oversees structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation structures
  • Directs and mentors Junior Engineers and Structural Designers, providing technical guidance and quality control
  • Prepares and reviews calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports for accuracy and constructability
  • Coordinates with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery
  • Provides technical guidance on project scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments
  • Conducts site visits and construction observations to support design intent and resolve field issues
  • Completes assignments within budget and schedule while working with design teams involving multiple disciplines
  • Provides career development mentoring to early-career engineers
  • Assists in client contact and communication, and attends client meetings
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals
  • Stays current with applicable codes, standards, and best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Performs other duties as required
