About The Position

IMEG is seeking a Structural Engineer Inspector for their Columbus, OH office. This role involves conducting visual site observations and inspections to ensure compliance with codes and project specifications. The inspector will work with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to verify structural element implementation and report discrepancies. While not performing construction materials testing, a strong understanding of construction practices and material behavior is required to assess site conditions and ensure structural integrity.

  • Manage and control own schedule to ensure timely services are provided on all assigned projects

  • Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 50% with occasional overnight stays

Nice To Haves

  • Associates/Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 1 year of experience preferred; prior experience in structural inspection or the building design consulting industry preferred
  • Possession of, or desire to obtain a recognized certification related to Structural Inspection (i.e. ICC General Requirements, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting, ICC Structural Welding, ICC Master of Special Inspections, and/or AWS-Certified Weld Inspector) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs field observations and inspections of structural elements of buildings and other structures
  • Can function as an International Building Code defined Special Inspector on projects designed by the company or designed by other companies
  • Produce well written and organized reports
  • Assist project design teams as required by project Interpretation or evaluation of field conditions and laboratory reports
  • Job site visits and photographs of relevant conditions in the field to use as documentation for reports
  • Detailed written reports of all observations, any project discrepancies, and documenting collaboration with the Structural Engineer of Record (SEoR) to provide direction for remedial action of discrepancies noted during the field observations
  • Perform shop drawing reviews, inclusive of providing mark ups to the SEoR for review and approval
  • Assist with answering requests for information (RFIs), interpretation of test results, or contractor change orders, etc.
