  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in structural design, testing, research, or construction.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals, including mechanics of materials, structural analysis, and design.
  • Educational background or hands-on experience in the design and testing of concrete and masonry structural systems and materials.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis and interpretation of structural test results using engineering principles and statistical methods.
  • Experience conducting systematic technical literature reviews, identifying relevant sources, evaluating technical publications, and integrating findings.
  • Strong technical writing and drafting skills, including the ability to prepare comprehensive reports and documentation.
  • Familiarity with applicable structural testing standards and codes, including ASTM, ACI, ASCE, and building code requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Availability for required field work and some overnight travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in structural engineering, materials engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing test plans and specimen designs and coordinating structural testing programs with laboratory facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with structural testing equipment, including hydraulic cylinders, pumps, actuators, load frames, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience managing laboratory testing schedules, coordinating multiple testing facilities, and overseeing complex testing timelines with external parties.
  • Understanding of concrete material science, including mix design, curing processes, fresh and hardened properties, and durability characteristics.
  • Field construction experience, particularly with concrete and masonry construction methods, quality control processes, and construction tools.
  • Experience with seismic loading analysis, seismic design code requirements, and seismic testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with 3D-printing technologies, additive manufacturing processes, or advanced construction methods.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and execute comprehensive test plans and specimen designs that meet structural testing objectives and regulatory requirements for ICON's 3D-printed systems, under the direction of the program or project manager.
  • Support coordination and design of test logistics, including lifting procedures, shipping methods, test fixtures, and setup requirements.
  • Generate detailed documentation for print processes, including technical drawings, instructions, and logs.
  • Monitor the 3D-printing process of test specimens to ensure quality and conformance with established test plans and standards.
  • Analyze and interpret test results using analytical techniques to identify performance trends and assess compliance with project objectives.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including drawings, reports, calculations, and presentations, covering testing methodology, results, and conclusions for regulatory bodies, engineering consultants, and certification agencies.
  • Assess unusual testing circumstances and devise solutions to technical challenges in the testing process.
  • Support regulatory approval processes by adapting established testing approaches and developing new methodologies as needed.
