About The Position

Under the direction of a licensed engineer and designated project leadership, the successful candidate will be responsible for analysis and design of structural systems/components in steel, concrete and masonry and an integral part of design teams. This role involves performing structural engineering tasks on multiple projects, interfacing with design teams, performing design calculations, and utilizing relevant engineering software. The engineer will also apply structural code knowledge, design complete structural systems, use Revit for BIM modeling, perform complex calculations, check shop drawings, review design specifications, interface with clients, and potentially attend construction meetings and perform field observations. Guidance of junior staff and assistance with project budget and scope may also be required. Overtime work and travel are expected.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of related experience required.
  • Current PE and/or SE in the United States required.
  • Experience with concrete and steel required.
  • Knowledge of IBC and other national standard codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit, RAM, RISA) required.

Nice To Haves

  • LEED AP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform structural engineering tasks on multiple projects.
  • Interface effectively with members of the design team to coordinate structural systems with overall building design.
  • Perform design calculations.
  • Use relevant engineering software to design and document structural engineering systems.
  • Identify and apply structural code knowledge to structural engineering work.
  • Design complete structural system within established design parameters.
  • Use Revit to develop BIM models for producing contract documents.
  • Perform complex design calculations and limited custom detailing.
  • Independently check shop drawings and calculations.
  • Review and edit design specifications.
  • Interface effectively with clients.
  • May attend and participate in construction meetings.
  • Perform field observations during construction phase requiring a physical walk through of the site.
  • Observations may be done independently.
  • May guide technicians and less experienced staff in execution of contract documents.
  • May assist in defining project budget and scope.
  • Willing to perform overtime work and travel.
  • May perform other duties as required.
