About The Position

Passero Associates' Rochester, NY office has an excellent career opportunity for a Structural Engineer II to join our Structural Department and work alongside a team of talented and outstanding professionals. The successful candidate will apply engineering principles and the latest technology to help clients solve complex structural challenges. Typical projects involve structural design and analysis across a diverse portfolio including K-12, commercial, municipal, institutional, and multi-family residential facilities, utilizing all major building materials in regions across the nation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and client personnel while taking increasing ownership of project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or related field from an ABET-accredited program; Master's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in structural engineering design and analysis.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required.
  • Strong working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, AISC Steel Manual, ACI 318, and other applicable structural design standards.
  • Experience designing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Proficiency with REVIT and structural drafting/modeling software.
  • Experience with RAM, RISA, ENERCALC, ETABS, SAP2000, or similar structural analysis software.
  • Familiarity with seismic and wind design principles and code requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities while meeting project schedules.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience coordinating with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops structural solutions for small to mid-sized engineering projects and serves as a key contributor on larger, more complex projects involving both existing building renovations and new construction.
  • Performs structural analysis and design of buildings and structural systems utilizing engineering software and hand calculations to validate design assumptions and outcomes.
  • Develops innovative design approaches and engineering production methods that improve project efficiency, quality, and overall deliverables.
  • Production of structural construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports using CAD/BIM technologies.
  • Coordinates with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure integration of structural systems with architectural and MEP disciplines.
  • Conducts project site visits, field investigations, condition assessments, and construction administration activities, including shop drawing and submittal reviews.
  • Maintains high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
