About The Position

Crawford, Murphy & Tilly is seeking an entry-level Structural Engineer I to join our Surface Transportation group in the Chicago, IL or Indianapolis, IN office. This is not a remote position. We are a fast-growing firm with 500+ employees across 25 offices in 10 states serving clients through our four primary business groups: Aviation, Surface Transportation, Water Resources, and Building & Site Services. As a Structural Engineer I, you'll play a key role in supporting the Chicago and Indiana teams, while providing the opportunity to experience new challenges in a dynamic environment. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an accredited university
  • 0-5 years related structural engineering experience with a strong emphasis in the design of bridges and structures
  • Working knowledge of Microstation or AutoCAD
  • Ability to work in a team environment and the ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to adjust as project workload demands change
  • Proficient with various structural design and analysis software
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in the field, as needed, for engineering roles
  • Possession of a current and valid driver’s license to travel to field sites, as needed, for engineering roles

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineer with an emphasis in Structural Engineering is highly preferred
  • FE certification
  • Previous internship or co-op experience
  • Coursework: Prestressed/Post tensioned Concrete, Steel Structures II/Reinforced Concrete II, Excavation and Support Systems, Foundation Engineering
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications

Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of engineering, planning, and corporate projects
  • Attend team meetings and contribute ideas
  • Develop technical reports and present collaborative ideas
  • Be open to feedback and professional growth
  • Assist with planning preparation & field visits alongside experienced engineers
  • Engineer and design a wide range of bridge and structural elements, including projects for State DOTs and large municipalities
