When you join Team Blue, you aren't just a team member - you’re an owner. The Mission: As a Structural Designer, your primary objective is to serve as the technical support engine and field troubleshooting anchor for residential framing packages. You are responsible for converting architectural house plans into precise CAD floor layouts, tall wall calculations, header sizing, and prescriptive wind-bracing markup documents. As a key technical resource within the Structural Design team reporting directly to Category Leadership, you ensure that our commitment to the local builder is executed flawlessly by delivering accurate, buildable plans and executing Team Blue's "48-Hour Solution Resolution" policy for job-site and red-tag inspection issues. Defining the Role: Floor Layouts: Utilize "iS design" software to generate clear, precise structural floor framing layouts and engineered drawings for residential construction projects. Tall Wall & Component Sizing: Run specialized analysis software to size headers, glulams, I-joists, flush beams, tall wall systems, and critical load-bearing components. Prescriptive Wind-Bracing Interpretation: Wall-bracing documentation interpretation and support using residential building code methods to ensure municipal compliance. Field Troubleshooting & 48-Hour Resolution: Serve as the primary technical troubleshooter for unexpected framing challenges, delivering inspector-ready documentation and solutions within 48 hours per Team Blue's resolution policy. Red-Tag Inspection & Job-Site Support: Review contractor framing challenges, assist builders with red-tag inspection issues, and conduct job-site visits when warranted to assess field conditions. Design Log Stewardship & Communication: Manage an active project log to hit committed due dates while maintaining high-touch phone and written communication with sales Quarterbacks (QBs) and builders. Mentorship & Team Motivation: As personal role mastery increases, assist in onboarding, training, and motivating new design team members. What Success Looks Like: Performance is measured by your direct impact on design log velocity, engineering accuracy, and field problem resolution: Design Log OTIF Rate: Achieving high on-time delivery percentages for complete structural floor layouts and tall wall documents relative to committed project due dates. 48-Hour Resolution Compliance: 100% adherence to Team Blue's "48-Hour Solution Resolution" policy for contractor field challenges and inspector red-tag issues. Calculation Precision: Precise structural load path calculations, header sizing, and floor cut sheets. QB & Builder Satisfaction: Maintaining clear, proactive communication and high customer satisfaction ratings across active projects. Workload Driver: The primary workload metric is total residential structural layouts completed and active design log volume.
