About The Position

The Structural Designer will be responsible for developing concept design drawings, creating and revising functional deliverables, and preparing 3D models and production drawings. This role requires close interaction with various teams including Engineering, Project Management, Production, Material Procurement, and Quality to ensure project requirements and production schedules are met. The designer will also develop accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and support the procurement process. Additionally, the position involves working with Production Craft to address engineering deliverables and mentor other staff members. A key responsibility is checking engineering deliverables for compliance with requirements and specifications.

Requirements

  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of the overall shipbuilding process.
  • Broad based knowledge of Production processes such as NC cutting, welding, material handling/forming, modular construction, and regulatory requirements within the scope of ship production.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Design experience in shipbuilding is required.
  • Efficient in utilizing current releases of AutoCAD and ShipConstructor.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Tools and Software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concept design drawings in accordance with customer requirements to support Bid & Proposal activities.
  • Create, revise, and/or review functional deliverables and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Prepare, revise, and/or review 3D models, Production Design drawings (e.g., Nest, Panel, and Assembly Drawings) or NC Code files in accordance to the defined Build Strategy documents/drawings.
  • Interact with Engineering team, Project Manager, Production personnel, Material procurement, and Quality personnel in support of project requirements and Production schedules.
  • Develop accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) to support the procurement process.
  • Ability to work with Production Craft to review engineering deliverables and address questions and concerns.
  • Mentor other staff members as needed.
  • Check engineering deliverables for compliance with requirements and specifications to ensure correctness of technical content.
