SUMMARY: The individual will utilize REVIT and AutoCAD to design and draft detailed models and drawings. The drawings will include plans, details, schedules, notes, isometrics, elevations, and sections used in preliminary, schematic, design development, construction and record documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or GED test credential) with 2 years of drafting courses utilizing AutoCAD and/or REVIT
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a drafter/designer
  • Aptitude for graphics
  • Working knowledge of REVIT, AutoCAD, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Computer Assisted Drafting from an accredited technology, vocational or junior college can replace the above education requirements and reduce the experience requirement to 4 years as a drafter/designer.
  • A related BS degree from an accredited college or university can replace the above education and reduce the experience requirement to 2 years as a drafter/designer.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications and other engineering data received from engineers and architects.
  • Develops final drawings from verbal instruction, rough sketches, marked up drawings, design computations, engineering fundamentals and the BRPH detail library.
  • Prepares minor design calculations and applies engineering fundamentals.
  • Performs minor design of portions of routine projects under direction of engineers.
  • Researches discipline-related code issues and presents interpretations.
  • Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
  • Assists in the development of probable construction cost estimates for projects within the discipline.
  • Attends meetings with out of office clients.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and permits for projects.
  • Maintains advanced skills in the use of REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinates models and drawings with models and drawings of other disciplines
  • Able to visualize and depict information between two and three dimensions.
  • Understands and applies REVIT, AutoCAD, graphics and discipline terminology.
  • Promotes communications, cooperation and quality among discipline and team members.
  • Assists engineers and designers in document checking and quality control procedures.
  • Assists engineers and designers in making observations, measurements, images and records of conditions at existing facilities and/or buildings in various stages of construction.
  • Assists other disciplines in Designer II level duties and accepts cross training assignments.
  • Assists in general office activities such as maintenance of discipline library, reproduction activities, deliveries and discipline housekeeping.
  • Proofs own work with 98% accuracy prior to checking.
  • Trainer and mentor to Drafter and Designer I staff.
  • Responsible for job specific standards, practices and quality as defined in BRPH Policies & Procedures and BIM Standards.
  • Maintains proficient understanding of all structural systems such as concrete, masonry, structural steel, structural steel, joists, precast, wood, tilt-up, and metal deck.
  • Maintains a proficient understanding of graphical representation and drafting standards for all structural systems.
  • Routinely creates and edits plan views, drafting views, borders, schedules, and general notes.
  • Routinely creates plan views (foundation, floor framing, roof framing, etc.) as well as framing elevations.
  • Complies with client specific drafting standards and drawing presentation requirements.
  • Understands and complies with Revit modeling best practices such as BIM LOD 300, model cleanup, worksets, etc.
  • Develops ability to create complex wind load diagrams, foundation plans framing plans, and elevations with verbal input from engineers.
  • Develops ability to create sections from plans with verbal input from engineers.
  • Coordinates and communicates with designers from other disciplines as well as BIM coordinators to resolve drafting and model related coordination issues.
