About The Position

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a self-motivated Structural Design Intern to join our team for a 12-week internship. This internship will support various transportation projects with a strong emphasis on bridge design. We are looking for candidates pursuing a degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural design/bridge design. Internships with ICE allow you to continue your education with a real-world experience that will enhance your future academic experiences. There is room for growth within our organization for dedicated civil engineering professionals. All employment offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully completing drug and background screenings. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule interviews. This internship spans 12 weeks, beginning sometime in May and ending in August. The exact start and end dates will be determined during the recruitment process. As a Structural Design Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn how to analyze and design structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures. You will work with AASHTO and other applicable design specifications, as well as state and local design requirements. Throughout the internship, you will gain knowledge in seismic design, load ratings, QA/QC processes, review and approval of construction submittals, and effective communication with clients and subcontractors.

• Must be actively pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with MicroStation is preferred but not required.
• Academic Juniors and Seniors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead engineer in maintaining organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
• Collaborate with engineers to develop effective designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures such as pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, pre-stressed concrete hollow-cored slab bridges, steel plate girder bridges, reinforced concrete flat slab bridges, retaining walls, noise walls, box culverts, and more.
• Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations, and specifications, ensuring technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability.
