About The Position
Ardmore Roderick is seeking a Summer 2026 Structural Design Intern to join its civil engineering structures team. The intern will support infrastructure projects and learn foundational civil engineering principles used in structural design. The position is based in Chicago, Illinois, and may be hybrid depending on client, project, and team needs.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a four-year degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
- Interest in transportation-based structural design projects, such as bridges, retaining walls, and other civil design work.
- Familiarity with design programs such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work as a team player and communicate proficiently in written and verbal forms.
- Good to great organizational skills.
Nice To Haves
- Prior internship experience with civil engineering projects.
- Familiarity with MathCAD, STAAD, or Shoring Suite.
Responsibilities
- Support the civil engineering structures team with tasks for assigned projects.
- Learn basic civil engineering principles applied to structural design projects.
- Assist with project research and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
