About The Position

In this role, you will be responsible for designing all aspects of our metal building systems, including structural steel, wall and roof panels, secondary members, and stability bracing. You will assist in the Nucor Building Group sales and profit effort by providing safe and efficient designs for low-rise steel building systems, which include structures such as airplane hangars, churches, gymnasiums, strip retail centers, and manufacturing/industrial buildings. You will effectively apply custom and industry software for the design of standard and non-standard structural framing conditions. You will provide creative, economical solutions for challenging framing conditions by utilizing knowledge of Nucor Building Group products and manufacturing limitations. You will actively manage projects through effective communication with customers and teammates in other departments. You will assist in the enhancement of current design software by providing suggestions and/or verification of engineering calculations. Involvement with the development of new design tools that aid productivity and accuracy may occasionally be required. You will perform quote engineering functions as needed, including preliminary design of structural framing, clarification of scope of work, and qualification of proposals. You will represent Nucor Building Group as an engineering resource in project meetings with customers, typically for reviewing design results or to present value engineering ideas. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering from an ABET Accredited school.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam prior to hire date.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).
