As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will join our Structural Bridge Design Team in our Westwood, MA or Woburn, MA, or Worcester, MA office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast. Our Structural Bridge Team and Projects At Tighe & Bond, our bridge engineering team brings decades of experience in delivering innovative, resilient, and community-focused infrastructure across the Northeast. Specializing in the design, permitting, and construction support of a wide range of bridge projects—including vehicular bridges, pedestrian crossings, culverts, and complex structural rehabilitations—we collaborate closely with state DOTs, municipalities, and private clients to meet evolving transportation and environmental needs.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Coursework or experience in statics, reinforced concrete design, steel design, foundation design or other related coursework and experience
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to solve engineering problems
- Effective communication skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility, a positive attitude, and open-mindedness
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other 3D modeling/visualization tools
- At least 2 years of completed coursework in a college level academic program
- Previous internship experience in structural engineering design, construction observation, or consulting
Responsibilities
- Assist the structural bridge team with designing, building, and inspecting new bridges
- Support the renovation, evaluation, and design of existing bridges and structural support
- Assist staff with various projects and/or field assignments
- Learn and perform light drafting tasks using AutoCAD
- Assist with small design assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers
