This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are seeking an experienced Pipe and Structural Fitter III to apply their technical expertise, drive to succeed, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. In this role, you will be part of the AGILITY Fabrication Division, supporting our Dev. Pad rebuild efforts, Test Stands, Launch Pads, and Tooling sites across Blue Origin with the expectation of executing and developing your trade. At this level, you will work from complex drawings and specifications with minimal supervision, perform layout and fit-up to tight tolerances, and serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior fitters and shop personnel. As part of a hardworking team of technicians, welders, and fabricators, you will use your skills and knowledge to complete build-to-print and prototype work for various programs and projects across the company. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of repairs, upgrades, and fabricating weldments of various size, complexity, and materials while ensuring safety and quality goals are achieved. Mechanical aptitude, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and ability to communicate as a team member both verbally and in writing is paramount. In this role you will collaborate with teammates to ensure designers receive the exact weldment they need.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 25% in support of activities at other Blue Origin sites.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of hands-on pipe and structural fitting experience in fabrication, shipyard, refinery, power, aerospace, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1/B31.3, AWS D1.1/D1.2/D1.6, and AWS D17.1.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, weld symbols, GD&T basics, and fabrication specifications.
  • Proficiency with layout techniques, pipe templating/development, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience with fit-up of multiple materials and pipe sizes/schedules, including socket weld, butt weld, and flanged connections.
  • Ability to tack weld using [GTAW / GMAW / SMAW] processes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection (fit-test eligible).
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as required to support schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or trade/vocational program in pipefitting, structural fabrication, or welding.
  • Aerospace or high-purity/cryogenic system fitting experience; propellant, high-pressure gas, or hydraulic system experience.
  • Current certifications: overhead crane, forklift, rigging, aerial lift, confined space.
  • Plate and pipe bending experience.
  • Experience with 3D model viewing tools (e.g. NX, Creo).
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading small teams.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, and specifications to lay out, cut, bevel, fit, and tack piping and structural assemblies.
  • Perform precision layout and fit-up of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and Inconel piping, tube, plate, and structural shapes.
  • Fabricate and install spool pieces, supports, hangers, skids, frames, brackets, and weldments.
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment including band saws, pipe cutters/bevelers, pipe benders, grinders, drill presses, ironworkers, and oxy-fuel/plasma cutting equipment.
  • Use precision measuring and alignment tools (tape, squares, levels, protractors, calipers, micrometers, wraparounds, laser/optical alignment) to hold specified tolerances, fit-up gaps, and alignment.
  • Coordinate closely with welders, QA/QC, and engineering on joint prep, fit-up inspection, weld sequencing, and distortion control.
  • Perform rigging and material handling of assemblies; operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and man lifts in accordance with site certification requirements.
  • Verify work against drawings and quality requirements; support dimensional inspection, hydrostatic/pneumatic proof and leak testing, and NDT coordination.
  • Document work accurately, red-line drawings and submit discrepancy reports or nonconformances as required.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in fabrication methods, tooling, fixturing, and shop layout.
  • Provide guidance, on-the-job training, and technical mentorship to Level I and II fitters.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area; comply with all EHS, foreign object debris (FOD), lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work requirements.
