About The Position

The Stroke and Nursing Quality Indicators Coordinator is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive, evidence-based stroke program that maintains compliance with Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification standards, New York State Department of Health Certified Stroke Center requirements, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® Stroke program standards. This role provides oversight for stroke program development, implementation, performance improvement, and regulatory readiness through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Emergency Services, Critical Care, Rehabilitation Services, and Nursing. The coordinator leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of stroke-related clinical protocols, policies, order sets, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives. The position is responsible for monitoring stroke quality metrics, facilitating multidisciplinary performance improvement activities, conducting data analysis, and ensuring accurate reporting of stroke outcomes in accordance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The coordinator serves as a clinical and operational resource to promote excellence in stroke care across the continuum and supports population health initiatives as appropriate to the scope of services. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating the collection, analysis, reporting, and improvement of nursing-sensitive quality indicators across the organization. Working collaboratively with nursing leadership, quality, patient safety, infection prevention, clinical informatics, and operational teams, the coordinator ensures the integrity of nursing quality data, compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, and achievement of organizational quality and patient safety goals. The role supports evidence-based practice, nursing performance improvement initiatives, accreditation readiness, and strategic priorities designed to improve patient outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and advance a culture of quality, safety, and excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Minimum 3 years of acute care hospital experience preferred.
Self-directed with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Demonstrates leadership skills with excellent observation, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead successful meetings.
Ability to assess, evaluate, educate and collaborate with all members of the care team.
Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of professionals, including physicians, nursing personnel and managers in a non-confrontational manner.
Current New York State Registered Nurse license required.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and maintain a comprehensive Stroke Program that meets Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification standards, New York State Department of Health Stroke Center requirements, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® standards
Lead multidisciplinary stroke quality and performance improvement activities by monitoring clinical outcomes, analyzing performance data, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing evidence-based interventions in collaboration with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Emergency Services, Nursing, and other stakeholders.
Manage stroke program data collection, validation, analysis, reporting, and regulatory submissions to applicable agencies and registries, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established reporting requirements
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate stroke-related protocols, policies, order sets, and clinical practice guidelines that support evidence-based patient care.
Coordinate stroke-related education and outreach programs for staff, physicians, patients, community members, and external healthcare providers to promote stroke awareness, prevention, treatment, and continuous regulatory readiness.
Coordinate the collection, validation, analysis, and reporting of nursing-sensitive quality indicators, including patient falls, hospital-acquired pressure injuries, healthcare-associated infections, restraint utilization, staffing indicators, and other organizational quality metrics.
Monitor nursing quality outcomes and lead performance improvement initiatives utilizing evidence-based methodologies to address performance gaps, improve patient safety outcomes, and achieve organizational quality goals.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and benchmarking requirements related to nursing quality and patient safety, including Joint Commission, CMS, National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI/Press Ganey), and state reporting standards.
Prepare and present quality, performance, and outcome reports to nursing leadership, quality councils, medical staff committees, and other organizational stakeholders to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.
