About The Position

The Upper School String Orchestra Teacher for Grades 7-12 will be responsible for teaching two string orchestra classes and further developing an established program. This role requires producing high-quality artistic experiences for students, creating effective lesson plans, and fostering a positive learning environment. The teacher will also direct orchestras for concerts and events, conduct assessments, communicate with parents and students, integrate technology, maintain student records, and collaborate with faculty and staff, including the music faculty and Director of Fine Arts.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Music Education.
  • Possess a minimum of two years of teaching experience or field experience.
  • Experience teaching intermediate to advanced students.
  • Experience working with a learning management system, like Canvas.
  • Must be able to integrate faith and learning.
  • Must be a practicing Christian who is comfortable working in a multi-denominational Christian community.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer a licensed teacher with 7-12 certification for the State of Ohio with a specialization in instrumental music with a string emphasis or be willing to pursue certification.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two string orchestra classes.
  • Demonstrate a passion to further develop an established program.
  • Produce high-quality artistic experience working with students in grades 7-12.
  • Create lesson plans based on sound pedagogical methods of instruction.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Direct Orchestras for concerts and school events as required.
  • Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, email, phone calls and conferences.
  • Integrate technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and current records of student progress, achievement, and behavior.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff. This includes, but is not limited to, working with the music faculty and Director of Fine Arts.
