About The Position

A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) at a high school designs and implements science-based training programs to improve athletic performance, reduce injuries, and teach lifelong fitness skills. The role is focused on working with student-athletes in a safe and positive environment and requires strong collaboration with coaches and athletic trainers.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
  • Previous experience designing and implementing strength programs, preferably with a high school population.
  • Experience as an assistant coach or intern is also valuable.
  • Current certifications in standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED).
  • Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, biomechanics, and periodization.
  • Expertise in strength training techniques for high school athletes.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Must complete an INS I-9 form and provide proof of employment eligibility.
  • Must complete a disclosure form indicating whether he or she has been convicted of crimes against persons.
  • Background check based on fingerprints will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI.

  • Master's degree may be preferred or required for some positions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead strength and conditioning programs for all school-sanctioned sports, addressing the needs of athletes both in-season and off-season.
  • Supervise training sessions to ensure proper technique, safety, and equipment usage, including demonstrating exercises correctly and providing motivation to athletes.
  • Work closely with sports coaches, the athletic director, and the sports medicine or athletic training staff, including developing sport-specific goals and assisting with the rehabilitation of injured athletes.
  • Ensure the weight room and training facilities are well-maintained and operate safely, including creating and enforcing facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of athlete attendance and progress.
  • Manage the program's budget and prepare annual proposals for equipment needs.
  • Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sports team to determine how to best improve their strength and conditioning programs.
  • Implement a departmental risk management plan to minimize liability and ensure a safe training environment for all students.
  • Instruct physical education classes or supervise a strength and conditioning club for students (in some high schools).
  • Help reinforce expectations for student-athlete conduct consistent with the school's overall code of conduct.
  • Provide general guidance to athletes on proper nutrition and recovery methods that support athletic performance.
