About The Position

Plan, direct, and oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning program for Olympic sports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • Two years of experience in strength and conditioning and/or development and implementation of weight programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to correctly use and train others on how to use weight equipment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with college athletes and demonstrate proper exercise techniques.
  • Proficiency in the daily use and operation of weight training equipment.
  • Ability to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  • Current certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or ability to become certified within one year of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record under Washburn's standards.
  • Capacity to lift/maneuver equipment/materials weighing as much as 45 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science or a related degree.
  • Experience as a strength and conditioning coach in a university setting, working with athletes in a variety of sports.
  • Previous supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of nutrition.
  • Current certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the functionality of equipment within the facility and coordinate with the administration when needed to purchase new or update equipment.
  • Work in conjunction with Athletic Trainers to properly monitor injured athletes and provide direction as they return from injury.
  • Assess and evaluate individual athletes’ needs and develop a strength and conditioning plan accordingly. Monitor and adjust plan as necessary to optimize athletic performance.
  • Monitor workouts to ensure activities are completed correctly, to ensure effectiveness and minimize risk of injury.
  • Develop and maintain training records for each athlete to facilitate assessment and adjustments to training regimens.
  • Educate student athletes about training and nutrition to help them adopt a holistic approach to conditioning and physical development.
  • Schedule workouts to ensure training facility availability.
  • Maintain a healthy and fair environment by exercising teamwork and collaboration. Actively promote a professional workplace culture of mutual respect and collegiality for all members of the institution.
  • Oversee and manage staff, interns, and Graduate Assistant positions in providing knowledge and guidance.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
  • Attend conferences and meetings.
