About The Position

Under general supervision of the Public Works Manager with direction from a Superintendent and/or Crew Leader, the Maintenance Tech performs a variety of tasks in the general maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, maintenance at city parks, medians, Right-of-Way areas, municipal facilities and provides support to the public and assigned city departments and divisions. May assist with installation, maintenance and repair of water system mains, water pipes, sewer system mains, sewer pipes.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED
Experience with safety, training, and operation of equipment
Valid Texas class C driver’s license is required with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

Certificate of training for courses related to water and safety training preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs repair of city streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, pipes, gutters, and miscellaneous repairs as required.
Performs street repairs and patching; lays asphalt, fills potholes.
Maintains safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage, and using proper equipment and tools.
Sands streets and participates in ice control activities.
May operate trucks or heavy equipment to loads, hauls, and unloads dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
Maintains, installs, and replaces landscaping in city parks, and municipal facilities.
Paints, repairs and maintains equipment, furniture, facilities and playground components.
Monitors equipment operator to prevent damage to other utility lines while digging.
Perform in an outdoor environment.
Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage and support to other City departments as assigned.
Assists in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings.
Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action.
Completes reports on daily work assignments and activities as required.
Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment and tools in safe operating order.
Performs routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
Travels to attend meetings and training.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
Performs other duties as assigned.
