About The Position

This position is part of the Public Employee Union (PEU) and operates under a 40-hour work week. The role involves performing technical and administrative duties to assist the Streets Manager with the operation of heavy and complex construction equipment. The position is located at the Public Services Building in Lake Worth, FL.

Requirements

  • Must possess valid Florida CDL Class B driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.
  • General knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work.
  • General knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned area of work.
  • Must be able to perform the physical life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
  • Ability to maneuver through storm water management and drainage facilities, sometimes heavily vegetated.
  • Must possess visual acuity to produce and review written reports and records including mathematical calculations, operate a computer terminal, analyze data, and read maps, schematic drawings, and plans, and do extensive reading.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months experience in storm water/streets related work is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operates street sweeper truck maintaining 200 lane miles of paved roads.
  • Operates heavy type graders in grading, blading and smoothing roads and cutting slopes and new grades to line measurements and specifications.
  • Fills holes, repairs road shoulders, does ditching and drainage construction with graders, end loaders or dragline.
  • Operates a combination backhoe; loading and unloading gravel, asphalt, shell and dirt; and cleaning ditches and canals for drainage.
  • Operates forklift and/or front-end loader in loading and unloading materials.
  • May perform mechanical maintenance work on equipment.
  • Acts as crew leader on certain jobs.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Assists in responding to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding the storm water program, water quality, and flooding concerns.
