About The Position

The City of Pflugerville is seeking a Street Operations Crew Leader who believes in and exhibits the City's P.F.I.R.S.T. core values: Positive, Forward-thinking, Integrity, Resilience, Service, and Teamwork. This role involves leading assigned crews in daily activities, performing tasks typically assigned to subordinates as needed, and interfacing with other water/wastewater department personnel, other City departments, and the external public. The Crew Leader will oversee and assist crews in constructing, repairing, and maintaining City streets, channels, right-of-ways, and grounds, including tasks like pouring concrete, laying asphalt, digging trenches, leveling ground, and cleaning storm drains. They will also be involved in grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, planting, watering, and tree care. Ensuring crew compliance with safety procedures, maintaining City vehicles and equipment, and submitting required reports are also key responsibilities. The position requires accessibility via personal cell phone for job-related issues or emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in placing hot mix with paver.
  • Valid Texas driver license.
  • Ability to work with direct minimum supervision and to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Sound working knowledge related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of public works infrastructures.
  • Ability to motivate and lead others in performing job duties.
  • Ability to learn technical and scientific concepts and procedures related to work requirements.
  • Sound mechanical skills, with ability to repair machinery and equipment.
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to effectively and safely operate light trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, tractor with shredder or auger, lawn tractors, trencher, SCBAs, weed eaters, trailers, shop tools, and various hand tools.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to assigned personnel; schedule crew assignments; assist with completing and reviewing all work performed by assigned crew; provide on-the-job training and oversight to less experienced personnel; provide input into crew member performance evaluations; may recommend disciplinary action.
  • Oversee and assist crews that construct, repair and maintain City streets and channels; pour concrete; lay asphalt; dig trenches; level ground; clean out storm drains, clean streets.
  • Assist crews with completing routine construction and maintenance of right of ways and other assigned City grounds; mow, trim, edge, plant, water, and fertilize ground covering and shrubs; plant and trim trees; pick up litter and other debris.
  • Ensure assigned crewmembers comply with established operating standards and procedures, especially with regard to safety.
  • Maintain City vehicles; clean inside and outside; perform maintenance checks before and after use; ensure proper storage of vehicles and vehicle keys.
  • Maintain City tools and equipment in safe and effective operating condition; make minor repairs and adjustments as necessary; report unsafe or inoperable equipment to department management.
  • Submit required reports regarding crew activities.
  • Remains accessible via personal cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
