About The Position

This is an entry level position that will work as a laborer maintaining streets, culverts and drainage systems as assigned. This position on occasion will operate equipment used in maintaining road systems. It requires a valid Arkansas drivers’ license and a clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas drivers’ license
  • Clean driving record with proof of liability insurance
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • General knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks and carrying of heavy materials.
  • Maintains roads with asphalt repairs, cutting of grass, weeds, limbs, and trees and removing cuttings, act as flagman when crews are working on roadway.
  • Maintains equipment and assigned vehicles in a clean and organized condition.
  • Maintains drainage ways.
  • Reports problems to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • May be required to work periodically for Sanitation/Recycling Department as trash collector.
  • Follow all Property Owners' Association (POA) policies and safety rules.
  • May receive or be required to gain additional training.
  • May be required to drive a POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This position is subject to on duty lunch periods. An on-duty meal period is one in which the employee is not relieved of all duties.
  • Regular attendance is required.
