About The Position

The City of Tukwila is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform routine, semi-skilled maintenance and/or repair activities related to the maintenance of city streets infrastructure and right of ways, and/or facilities; operates equipment which does not require a commercial driver's license. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and one year of related maintenance experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid Washington State Flaggers Certificate within six months of hire
  • Washington State Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's License within one-year of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
  • Maintenance and repair methods and techniques in area of assignment
  • Basic grounds keeping and equipment maintenance techniques
  • Safety precautions applicable to area of assignment
  • Tools and equipment used in area of assignment
  • Systems maintained in area of assignment
  • Using equipment and tools properly and safely
  • Applying customer service techniques
  • Operating vehicles requiring less than a commercial driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled City streets infrastructure activities in maintaining and repairing City infrastructures to include bridges, roads, right of ways, street lights, traffic signals, and easements.
  • Installing, repairing and maintaining road surfaces, shoulders, sidewalks and bridges.
  • Installing and maintaining pavement markings and traffic control devices, and repairing traffic signs.
  • Performs site maintenance activities such as mowing, trimming, pruning, removing and planting vegetation in the right of way to include center islands and roadside planter strips.
  • Assists in tree trimming on City right of ways.
  • May assist with herbicide application.
  • May assist with maintenance and repair of traffic signals and street lighting.
  • Performs semi-skilled work involving operation of vehicles that do not require a commercial driver's license.
  • Performs operational checks and simple maintenance activities; reports needed repairs.
  • Operates equipment such as trucks, chippers, backpack blowers, pressure washers, airless painters, line trimmers, power tools, hand tools, and forklifts.
  • Performs litter control and graffiti removal from City right of ways.
  • Cleans, inspects, removes garbage from and pressure washes City bus stops.
  • May operate trucks equipped with salt and deicing equipment during ice and snow events.
  • Directs and controls traffic, to include placing traffic cones and signs, flagging traffic and closing lanes and streets.
  • Responds to emergency events and situations, to include snow, ice, power outages, and flooding.
  • Assembles materials and equipment for service requests including loading of trucks with supplies and materials.
  • May maintain and perform routine repair of irrigation systems, to include installing and repairing irrigation heads, valves, irrigation pipes, signal wires, timers, and pumps.
  • Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
  • May inventory supplies and make minor purchases as needed.
