About The Position

The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is seeking qualified individuals to join their team as a Street Maintenance Supervisor. These positions are scheduled to work either Mon-Thu 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, Tue-Fri 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, or Mon-Fri 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's capital projects, streets and traffic operations. The Public Works team oversees the planning, design, installation, maintenance, and operation of all signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, and roadway lighting for all City Streets. This includes 238 signalized intersections, 800 traffic cameras, 29,000 streetlights, 22,000 regulatory and warning signs, and 275 miles of roadway striping. Maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alleys requiring asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal, and maintenance of landscaping in the City's right of ways. We also oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction, and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services, and other general government improvements. Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to supervise staff who maintain and repair city streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm drain systems, retention basins, parking lots, pavement preservation, and other related concrete features in compliance with applicable regulations and specifications, as well as respond to hazards.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED and some college-level coursework
  • 5 years of experience in municipal street construction and maintenance, including 2 years of lead or supervisory experience
  • A 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion
  • A Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion
  • A valid Drivers License with an acceptable driving record
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff who maintain and repair city streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm drain systems, retention basins, parking lots, pavement preservation, and other related concrete features in compliance with applicable regulations and specifications, as well as respond to hazards.
  • Supervise daily operations of the assigned areas by setting goals and objectives.
  • Manage schedules and work priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance.
  • Facilitate access to resources and training.
  • Perform site visits.
  • Manage contracts.
  • Provide guidance and address complex issues.
  • Conduct interviews.
  • Make hiring decisions.
