About The Position

The Global Operations Planning for the Americas (GOPA) team implements global strategy driving various initiatives and system projects, provides sound controls over operations in the region, i.e. the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Mexico, managing various reports and regulatory matters including operational incident reports, and also acts as a key liaison between Tokyo Head Office (Tokyo HO) and the region interacting with all regional stakeholders. The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. A member of our recruitment team will provide more details. Responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring various initiatives and projects independently and/or in partnership with business partners (Operations, front offices, and others) to enhance the operations and systems management framework and improve operational efficiency and quality. Ability to independently plan, execute, and monitor a portfolio of initiatives and deliverables, ensuring alignment with Tokyo Head Office (HO) direction and policies while improving operational efficiency, quality, and risk/control discipline. Experience in banking operational area and demonstrate strong execution skills Advanced hands-on knowledge of wholesale banking operations and related products/processes (e.g., payment/settlement flows, incident management and reporting, and nostro/vostro accounts), as well as the ability to proactively identify issues, structure solutions, and lead execution under time constraints and pressure. Requires, on occasion, working early or late to attend meetings with Head Office based in Japan and offices globally.

Requirements

  • Bilingual Japanese/English required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives independently (multi-stakeholder, multi-location, tight deadlines), including structured planning and disciplined execution.
  • Strong working knowledge of banking operations and related products/processes (e.g., payments/settlement operations and related change/incident governance)
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Power Automate/Power BI Desktop/Visio/Outlook) skills.
  • Proven experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Ability to proactively take the initiative to work efficiently and effectively on team-oriented projects.
  • Deadline-oriented and able to perform effectively while working independently.

Responsibilities

  • Execute various reporting tasks for the U.S. managements, regional offices (Canada, Mexico, and Brazil), and Tokyo HO, including KPIs and management decks.
  • Plan and lead initiatives and build strong partnerships with Tokyo HO, front-office teams, and key control/support functions (Technology, Risk/Compliance, etc.) to align with Tokyo HO’s direction and policies and improve operational efficiency and quality across the Americas.
  • Own delivery governance and stakeholder management: establish work plans and WBS, resource estimates, schedules, and progress/risk visibility; escalate issues and drive decisions to closure across multiple stakeholders and locations.
  • Lead cross-border liaison and complex case resolution by structuring and driving time-sensitive inquiries and escalations (e.g., payment/settlement coordination, production readiness/hypercare support for major changes, and nostro account lifecycle changes) through end-to-end coordination.
